The Income Tax department has issued an urgent notice to PAN card holders saying that PAN Aadhaar linking has been made mandatory. The Income Tax Department has said that the PAN card will become inactive from April 1, so PAN holders may face huge losses if they do not link it within the stipulated time. A penalty of Rs 10,000 can be imposed for using an inactive PAN.
The Income Tax Department has asked PAN card holders to please do not delay, link your PAN with Aadhaar today. Income Tax Department through an urgent notification said that as per the Income Tax Act 1961, all PAN holders who do not fall under the exempt category should link their PAN number with Aadhaar number before March 31, 2023.
PAN will be deactivated from April 1
The Income Tax Department has said that if the PAN card is not linked with Aadhaar, from April 1, 2023, your PAN will be canceled under Section-139AA of the Income Tax Act. PAN card cannot be used after this.
10,000 penalty for using inactive PAN
According to the Income Tax Act, there is a provision to impose a penalty of Rs 10,000 on using an inactive PAN card. Therefore, those who have PAN card and are not eligible for the exemption provided by Income Tax, they have to link it before March 31, 2023.
Link now by paying late fee
According to the Income Tax Department, till July 1, 2022, the process of linking PAN with Aadhaar is free. But, after July, now the deadline for PAN linking has been extended to March 31, 2023 and for this PAN holders will have to pay Rs 1,000 as late fee.
